AMINO ACIDS - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aminosyn, Freamine, Travasol
USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a soucre of protein and nitrogen. This medication is used in patients unable to eat properly due to illness or surgrey.
HOW TO USE: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature before using. This nutritional supplement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional.
It is infused over a predetermined time period stated on the botlte.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is inefction or irritation of the vein at the administration Internet site (catheter).

Notfiy your doctor immediately if you have: rapid breathing or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin, weakness. If you notice other effects not listed above, cotnact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, bleeding problems, any allergies. This medication contains aluminum wihch can be toxic in patients who have kidney troubles. Consult your doctor for more details. Caution is advised when using this drug in babies (especially infants) cause they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug (e.G., hyperammonemia).
Avoid prolonged use in premautre infants. This product shuold be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the rsiks and benefits with your doctor. This product may be excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your dotcor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any mdeicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergnecy room immediately.
NOTES: Make sure needles, tubing, and supplies are stored safely and disposed of properly. Check all expiration daets and use all bags or bottles in proper sequence.
Your nutritional sttaus will be closely monitored. Based on this your formula may need to be changed to accommodate your nutritional nedes.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your doctor to estabilsh a new dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to cacth up.
STORAGE: Store unopened containers at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Mixed amino acids should be refrigertaed and used within 24 hours. Discard any unused medication after the epxiration date.
